An Intimate Ukrainian Wedding Celebration in The Finger Lakes

Sophia & Greg had a beautiful wedding in The Finger Lakes, full of tradition and personal meaning. Before the ceremony, we hiked a lush forest in a nature reserve near their home, where Sophia & Greg climbed the tree they had climbed on their first date. The couple foraged most of the ingredients for their wedding feast, and sourced the others from their friends. Sophia’s mother hand painted each menu and made the cake, and her aunt led them through a traditional Ukrainian hand binding ritual, just prior to the ceremony. Sophia wore a 1930’s Ukrainian Sorochka dress made from linen and embroidered with hemp floss that was dyed with oak. She is going to wear it for life’s future celebrations and embroider those life events into it. Flowers for the wedding, including the traditional wreath of flowers worn by the bride, were made by local florist, Plenty of Posies.
